Go Green! – Chemical yo-yo

Fun during Go Green classes

The students’ task at the last Go Green class was to make a chemical yo-yo. To do this, combine baking soda, oil, and vinegar. The vinegar solution is thicker than oil and will sink when poured into a glass. The acid, on the other hand, reacts with the baking soda to form bubbles of carbon dioxide that rise to the top. The effects of the experiments can be seen in the photos taken during the lessons.

Go Green! – Jellyfishes in bottles

Experiments during Go Green

The last Go Green lesson was full of colors and fun. In the beginning, the students made plastic jellyfish in bottles that floated upwards when turned upside down. For a more interesting effect, the children used flashlights and illuminated their jellyfish. In the course of this lesson, they also learned that trash, such as plastic bags, could be mistaken for food by marine animals.

The second experiment required Skittles candies that are coated with sugar and food coloring. However, the colors start to fade when you add warm water to them.
